On Sunday, a mini-bus of children left the balmy Surrey countryside to head to the hotter, bigger smoke of Wimbledon, as part of the Theatre Club.  On arrival, we took advantage of the charming child-focused facilities of the theatre (what a great idea to have a courtyard playground within a theatre!) and then took our seats for the magical production.

The Box of Photographs is a play that explores the imagination of a young girl growing up in inner city London. The play itself was part of a project between the Polka Theatre and the V&A Museum of Childhood.  Together, they created a story-writing competition, in which children were asked to use their imaginations to create photograph-inspired stories.  Their wonderful ideas were then merged together to create this fantastic play.

We spent a lovely Sunday afternoon listening to surprising stories that were inspired by black and white, 1950s photos… and marvelling at the magic created on stage, born from children’s imaginations.
