If you love Hockey then Cranleigh Preparatory School is the place to be. Whether a complete beginner or an expert player with club or county experience, the Hockey programme at Cranleigh Prep will enthuse, develop and challenge.
Hockey runs throughout the year, with U13, U12 and U11 girls fixtures taking place in the Michaelmas Term, all boys fixtures and U10, U9 and U8 girls fixtures taking place in the Lent Term and specialist after school coaching provided throughout the year for boys and girls in Forms 5 and 6 who have been invited to attend.
The games sessions and coaching are taken by highly experienced hockey coaches led by Cranleigh School’s Director of Hockey, Richard Organ. Many of the Common Room have played to a high level themselves, and they make an invaluable contribution to the provision of coaching for this sport.
The school has a recognised Hockey pedigree having produced two past Olympians (David Westcott, Bronze medallist, 1984 and Stephen Batchelor, Bronze Medallist 1984 and Gold Medallist 1988).
Mr Stephen Batchelor is now Head of Admissions for the Senior School and David Westcott is a member of the School’s governing body, with the Prep School’s full sized, artificial pitch having been named Westcott in his honour.
More recently, Isabelle Petter has been awarded a central contact for the GB squad having played for the full GB side in recent Pro-League matches and both Charlotte Calnan and Megan Batchelor have represented England at Under 18 level, with Charlotte going on to play for both the England Under 21 side as well as the full England side.
Cranleigh Prep School hockey teams have featured regularly in national IAPS hockey finals, which the U13 girls have won twice, and also the England Hockey In2 hockey competitions, where we have had many teams claim County and Regional titles and in which the U13 girls placed 4th in 2013 and took the National title in 2012.
