June the Lower School were treated to a fabulous concert presented by Marcus Pashley, Director of Music at Cranleigh School. The theme ‘Music through the ages’ was a journey through musical history and featured performers from the Cranleigh Music team.

Mr Pashley utilised Dr Who’s Tardis to time travel between musical periods. They began in the Renaissance Period with Mrs Beddison performing a beautiful recorder piece by Obrecht.

The Baroque Period was represented by Mr Scriven who demonstrated Bach’s virtuosity on the harpsicord. Mr Weaver (Head of Strings) played a piece by Boccherini from the Classical period, whilst Dr Ward (Head of Keyboard) performed a Chopin favourite from the Romantic Period.

The contributions from the 20th century were varied and hugely enjoyable. Dr Thomas (Head of Woodwind) played a modern piece on the flute, which expertly demonstrated extended techniques.

Mr Eaglestone (Head of Brass) performed a jolly jazzy piece on the trombone before Mr Royall and Mr Maxwell concluded the concert with a wonderful blues song.

The children had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon as they listened enthusiastically and were wowed by the wonderful music that they were exposed to. Many thanks  to the Cranleigh Music team for such a delightful afternoon.
