The girls at CPS are enjoying the transition from rounders to cricket this Summer term.  In the U8 and U9 age groups the swap has been a wholesale one, with cricket completely replacing rounders in their calendar and they are loving the opportunity to learn new skills and play the pairs format of the game.

As part of the new programme, the Lower School girls were treated to a Masterclass with England cricket legend, Lydia Greenway, last Friday afternoon. Lydia played cricket for England over a period of 13 years, earning 225 caps and winning two world cups in T20 and the One Day format in 2009.

The visit gave pupils the opportunity to show off the wonderful skills they have learnt  so far this term. Lydia commented on how much enthusiasm the pupils have for the game and how they have embraced this new opportunity.

The girls had thought of some wonderful questions, from ‘what made you start to play cricket?’ to ‘what was your best achievement?’. Pupils listened to her excellent advice on bowling and batting and many will be wanting to follow in Lydia’s inspirational footsteps.

Further up the school the introduction of cricket has been more gradual, with a mix of rounders and cricket being played in each of the U10 to U13 age groups.

Each week there are opportunities for the girls to train and play matches and the move has been greeted with great enthusiasm by the pupils.
