Former CPS pupils George MacDonald, Richard Eamey and Harry Barlow were interviewed by Mike Howard during School Assembly on Friday, after becoming national rugby champions. All three of our past CPS boys represented the Cranleigh School 1st VII rugby team that won the Rosslyn Park 7s – this is the biggest rugby tournament worldwide, in terms on numbers playing. Having beaten Wellington, they went on to secure a win again Millfield in the semi-final. It was a very proud moment when they then beat Harrow in the final. We wish them all the best of luck in their re-match against Harrow at Twickenham on 22nd May, as part of the London 7s.
It was both inspiring and entertaining for our pupils to hear the rugby stars being interviewed by Mr Howard! When asked to name their favourite rugby players, Richard chose Sonny Bill Williams, George said Jason Robinson and Harry picked Jack Nowell. Harry was then asked how he heard he had been selected to play for the England U16 rugby team; it turns out he was in Wales on training camp, so they were not amused to hear he was rejecting Wales for a place on the England team! All three boys regaled us with memories of their time at CPS, from cold showers after sport to inspirational speeches from their former 1st XV rugby coach, John Forster!
