During the Summer Term, Cranleigh Prep and Ewhurst Infants School collaborated on an Art project led by the Director of Art, Mr Rob Perry.  They were tasked by the Ewhurst Carnival to create artwork for the carnival’s programme cover competition and art exhibition.  The theme for this year’s Ewhurst Carnival is “Magic of the Musicals” and Mr Perry focused on several characters from well known musicals: Rafiki from Lion King and Shrek.  During an afternoon at Ewhurst Infants Mr Perry led a workshop with pupils from Year 1 and Year 2 using specialist art materials and introduced the children to new techniques in composition and painting with water soluble oil pastels.

Mr Perry created a video for an extension of the project for those who wanted to hone their skills further.

Back at Cranleigh Prep, pupils in Year 3 (Form 1) worked on the brief from the carnival during the “lights, camera, action” day.  Given their older age, the children at Cranleigh Prep pupils were given a broader range to explore their own ideas around the theme of musicals.

There are some terrific pieces of art across all the year-groups and Mr Perry and his team were so impressed by the studious approach that every pupil demonstrated during these special workshops.

All the artwork produced will be featured in the Carnival Gallery which will be a pop-up exhibition in the Ewhurst recreation ground on Saturday 5th August.  We hope that many families are able to take the opportunity to visit the carnival and see the hard work on display for one day only!
