Form 1 joined the staff of Haslemere Museum to mummify their life-size Ancient Egyptian! Many pupils participated, extracting the major organs, embalming and storing them for the afterlife in canopic jars.
There were then various other activities that the children enjoyed; they examined x-rays of Haslemere’s very own real Mummy, sketched and drew different Egyptian artefacts and tried to decipher hieroglyphics! The most exciting part was going into the museum to see the Mummy – wow!
After lunch, it was time for the Mummification workshop. Kay explained how to use a bandage and wrap it round each toy so that it covered every bit. It was quite fiddly! The next step was to write some hieroglyphs on a real piece of papyrus. Finally it was time to design and colour a death mask, just like Tutankhamun’s!
Form 1 had a fabulous trip to Haslemere Museum and learnt a huge amount from Kay and the workshops.
