On Monday 27th January, the Happy Chick Company delivered ten Rhode Island Red cross-fertilised eggs to the Prep School’s Science Department.
Hatching day was set for Wednesday 29th and by 7.30am three chicks were spotted out of their shells. After that, in quick succession, another four followed. The final two took slightly longer but by 4.00pm there were a total of nine chicks; five hens and four roosters – the hens are the darker coloured chicks.
Staff and children enjoyed watching the rapid growth and development of the baby chicks. The chicks have since left the school and moved into their new home with Jamie T and his family.
It has been a successful and enjoyable experience for all and the Science department are looking forward to repeating this experience in future years.
