Sixteen children from the CPS went to The Best of ….Rock Musicals in aid of one of our Upper School charities, the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust.

The Best Of… Rock Musicals took place on the eve of Mental Health Awareness Week (13-19th May) at the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith on Sunday 12 May 2019 at 4pm and 8pm to capacity crowds of 3,500 at each show.

The show included favourite songs from Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, Evita, Chess, Aida, Miss Saigon, RENT, Tommy, We Will Rock You, Spring Awakening, The Rocky Horror Show, Next To Normal and Dear Evan Hansen.

The hosts, Sir Tim Rice and Christopher Biggins, introduced songs. Hugh Wooldridge directed and devised the production, attracting the best talent from around the world, as well as Broadway and the West End. The music was directed by Kevin Amos and Stuart Morley with the London Philharmonic Allstars.

Jon Scott provided 12 volunteers from Cranleigh School’s LVIth Drama class, who did a terrific job collecting money and selling programmes. Mr Brewer brought up a mini-bus of 16 children to the event, which Mrs Schutte kindly co-ordinated.

Phil Waller, Head of Drama, says “Thank you to Cranleigh families for coming and for all the support. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! It looks like we may have raised a lot of money for Mental Health, so thank you for playing your part for such an important cause”.
