In September 2016, Cranleigh Prep School welcomed their first ever Patron of Reading, Cliff McNish.  Since then, Cliff has visited the school four times and kept in touch in the interim with emails, stories and writing stimuli.

On his most recent visit, he conducted a workshop on “ghost stories and building tension”; two writing classes about “heroes, villains and how to develop characters,” and he shared with Form 1 a fabulous unpublished picture book story – hmmm.. which was your favourite ending?

The Patron of Reading scheme has been a huge success for Cranleigh Prep.  As a school, we have developed a relationship with a special author over the course of the year, which has definitely helped to encourage the children with their reading and writing.  He may even have inspired a future generation of authors… who knows?

On behalf of the pupils and teachers, I would like to thank Cliff for the time, enthusiasm and care that he has put into the role.  He has been inspirational.

In September, we shall be announcing the name of our new Patron of Reading for the academic year 2017-2018.  Watch this space.
