The annual House Singing Competition is a highlight of the school year, involving a performance from all the children in the school. This year the unison song was ‘Seasons of love’ from the stage musical ‘Rent’ and the theme was numbers.
Each house chose their own choice song based on this theme and then crafted an arrangement of the song that included harmonies, soloists and occasional choreography.
Hearts were the loudest house, and sang ‘Rock around the clock’ with great energy. Spades sang ‘Count on me’ really thoughtfully with a lovely, clear tone.
Clubs sang ‘One more angel in Heaven’ and featured lovely harmonies from senior boys and girls. Diamonds confidently mixed harmonies, solos and actions together in their performance of ‘Counting stars’.
The Headmaster commented about the excellent overall standard, and this was echoed by adjudicator Wendy Doubell, Head of Music at Cranleigh School Abu Dhabi.
After some consideration, she selected this year’s winners as Hearts for the unison song and Diamonds for the own choice song. Congratulations to everyone for a wonderfully uplifting afternoon!
