Form 3 were very fortunate to have a talk from a local chocolatier this afternoon at the culmination of their Humanities topic work this term.

The pupils have been learning about the countries in which the important world cocoa crop is grown. They have particularly focused their studies on the world’s second-largest cocoa producer, Ghana.

Jo Marshall produces KoKoh Fair trade chocolate from her home in Ewhurst, Surrey, and was able to enlighten the children on the stages of chocolate production as well as the importance of buying Fair trade chocolate.

In addition, a group of pupils also carried out a Fair trade activity in which the inequalities in world trade were highlighted. Pupils could see the disadvantages and inequalities that producers in less economically developed countries face as they try to trade their crops on the world market.
