Cranleigh Prep School introduced a Creative Writing Competition for the first time this year, open to local primary schools.  Year 4 and Year 5 pupils were invited to submit a piece of writing inspired by the title ‘The Journey,’ which could be non-fiction or fiction.  The final selection was based on originality, language and enjoyment.

Having received more than 100 entries, Mrs Schutte and Mrs Kitson had the tough challenge of judging a fabulous collection of stories.  “With wonderful, imaginative tales ranging from toads in space and eggs in a fridge to the dilemma of Fruits vs Candy and myths, it was very difficult to choose the best, ” said Mrs Kitson.

The 12 winners were finally nominated from Cranleigh Primary School, Loxwood Primary School, Park Mead Primary School and Shamley Green Primary School.  Pupils, teachers and parents were invited to CPS for a Winners’ Tea Party.  At this prestigious event, Mrs Schutte (Head of English) read excerpts from all of the stories aloud and three children from each school were presented with their prize and a certificate.

“It was such an uplifting experience to read so many inspiring and creative stories,” explained Mrs Schutte.  It was great to welcome so many visitors from local schools to CPS and we look forward to the Creative Writing Competition becoming an annual event.
