The Prep School has three hard courts and up to 12 more courts laid out on Westcott artificial pitch, all of which are very popular both at break time and during the evening for boarders, it is a rare day when the courts are not full of aspiring Novak Djokavics and Serena Williams’.
During the Summer term tennis is offered as part of the daily games programme for Forms 5 and 6, with sessions aimed at developing pupils’ tennis from basic technique right through to tactical elements. Younger pupils may also have organised sessions during their break time, or after school. Tennis is run by Toby Batchelor and there are regular fixtures for U11 and U13 girls and boys against a variety of local schools throughout the Summer term.
Tennis is a very important part of the games programme as many pupils will make this their choice of main summer sport at their senior schools, so it is important that they have the opportunity to gain a good grounding whilst at Cranleigh Prep.
Each year we enter several pairs of boys and girls into the Prep Schools’ Tournament hosted at Cranleigh School and we have seen our pupils regularly reach the finals in this event.
