Cranleigh Prep School has access to Cranleigh School’s indoor 25 metre pool, which ensures an uninterrupted swimming season 365 days a year. Small groups of children are coached in ability sets to ensure that they are equipped with this essential life skill of being able to swim.
Under the direction of the Head of Swimming, Kelvin Jones, the curriculum focuses on all aspects of swimming from basic stroke techniques and water survival through to competitive dives, turns, and takeovers. This incorporates the building up of core strength and speed. Annually the children have the opportunity to demonstrate their progress during a competitive inter-house swimming competition, which is divided into galas for each section of the school.
In addition, we organise swim squad sessions after school to encourage those children who show natural ability, good technique and speed and a swim squad team is then selected to represent the school in galas against other schools, usually three or four times a term.
We also host and enter swimmers in IAPS qualifiers and we regularly have swimmers who qualify for the National IAPS Finals. In addition to this we enter teams into the Guildford District and Surrey Championships.
For those that are of county or national level, Cranleigh has good links with local clubs and squads that can cater for elite swimmers.
