E-mail: Mr R W PerryDip (Dist)
Mr Rob Perry, our Director of Art, trained as an illustrator UWE Bristol and The Gemini School of Art, graduating with distinction in 1992. As a professional artist he spent sixteen years working in portraiture, advertising and publishing and enjoyed particular acclaim in the world of sports illustration. In 2006 Rob and his wife, Zoe, moved their five children to Austin, Texas; where he taught Fine Art to high school graduates who were making the move into concept art for the video game and movie industry.
After three years in the USA Rob returned to teach at Elstree School in Berkshire in 2009 and in 2016 he was delighted to take over the thriving Art Department at Cranleigh Prep School, overseeing the department’s move into its amazing new facility in 2018.
Rob has undertaken commissions from many private clients including George Cole MBE, Ross Brawn OBE, Richard Benyon MP and ex TV ‘Dragon’ and entrepreneur, Sarah Willingham. In 2008 Rob’s work on Saatchi & Saatchi’s Otrivin poster campaign won a gold award at the European Advertising Awards. www.robperryart.com
Art is highly valued at Cranleigh Prep School and we believe that the development of creativity as well as visual awareness is an essential part of growing up.
Whilst developing their ability to observe, investigate, respond and record the world around them, children are encouraged to use a variety of forms and media whilst being taught a range of techniques and use of tools as appropriate to each stage of development and individual needs.
All pupils take Art lessons for one double lesson a week. A wide variety of creative techniques and media all form part of the carefully structured syllabus. These include fine art, sketching, charcoal work, ink painting, acrylic and watercolour painting, etching, lino printing, collage, mosaic, batik, together with a wide variety of clay work, constructing sculptures from recycled objects, wire and papier mâché.
There are active and vibrant Art Clubs for all ages and the Art Room is always open for keen artists and scholarship candidates.
