Cranleigh Prep School starts at Year 3, so 7+ is the first point of entry at Cranleigh. We have a nurturing environment for our Year 3s and we love welcoming children from a range of different Pre-Prep and Infant Schools.

Children benefit from the full range of facilities at Cranleigh Prep including specialist teaching in Maths, English, French, Science, Music, Art, Drama, Humanities as well as weekly library lessons with our librarian, three games sessions and swimming at Cranleigh Senior School’s indoor pool.

Each year, there are both day and boarding places available, including weekly and flexi-boarding.

Our 7+ Admissions Process

Taster Day

Registered applicants will be invited to one of our Cranleigh Prep Explorers taster events in the Summer term of Year 1 or Michaelmas (Autumn) term of Year 2. Explorers events allow children to meet Prep school staff and familiarise themselves with our campus. Explorers activities have included bushcraft, indoor climbing, astronaut training and archery. Parents are invited to join for drinks and meet the Head and staff informally. Advance booking is essential.

Visit Day

After registering your child, he or she will be invited to a Visit Day. This will include them filling out an ‘All About Me’ questionnaire and a short informal interview. Children are invited to bring in something to discuss e.g. an object or a recent piece of work. We ask for a report from your child’s current school in advance.

Cranleigh School welcomed Sam Price as Head in September 2024 and welcomed Will Newman as Prep Head in January 2025, signalling a new and exciting time at Cranleigh.

We are looking for children who enjoy taking part in a variety of areas in school life. Our academics are strong, and we also welcome a lot of children who need support. We are an all-round school with many opportunities outside the classroom making the most of our 280 acres in the Surrey Hills.

Seeing children discover new passions, explore creative ideas and make lifelong friends is a rare and extraordinary privilege. We never take this for granted and our commitment to every child’s aspirations and wellbeing is steadfast. Bust most of all, we want our children to love coming to school every day. As one of our youngest pupils put it, Cranleigh Prep is fun and “learny” at the same time. We can’t argue with that.
