MATHS EVENTS

Over this academic year, the following events have taken place in addition to the usual mathematics curriculum:

  • House Times Tables (Whole School)
  • Mathematics Association First Maths Challenge (All pupils in Form 1&2)
  • Mathematics Association Primary Maths Challenge (All pupils in Form 3&4)
  • Eagle House School Year 6 Maths Challenge (two Form 4 teams)
  • CPS Mental Arithmetic Challenge (All pupils in Form 4-6)
  • UKMT Junior Maths Challenge (Selected pupils in Form 4-6)
  • Guildford Schools Maths Challenge (Form 6 team)

All these challenges are designed to inspire and motivate pupils to achieve in maths and also have some fun and healthy competition along the way.

We are really proud of the results we have obtained over the course of the year.

House Times Table Challenge: Winner – Diamonds House

Primary Maths Challenge: 18 Gold Awards, 12 Silver Awards, 23 Bronze Awards. Special mention to Edmund L and Arthur H-R who also got through to the Bonus Round where they achieved Bronze Awards placing them in the top 4% of the 58,000 entrants.

Eagle House Year 6 Maths Challenge: The CPS teams placed 12th and 13th out of 74 teams.

CPS Mental Arithmetic Challenge: The pupils attempted this challenge weekly throughout the Lent Term. There were 83 Bronze Awards, 76 Silver Awards, 25 Gold Awards. Special mentions to Arthur H-R, Flo D-R and Isaac C for achieving the best results in their year groups.

UKMT Junior Maths Challenge: 86% of the pupils who entered achieved an award, placing them in the top 20% of the 300,000 entrants. Overall there were 15 Bronze Awards, 30 Silver Awards, 11 Gold Awards – the highest number of awards achieved at CPS. Special mentions to William S, Isaac C, Justin M, Jack M-P, Alex J and Oliver R for being invited to the follow on rounds following their performances placing them in the top 3% in the country.

Guildford Schools Maths Challenge: Form 6 team placed 3rd against 11 other local state and independent secondary schools.

Huge congratulations to all pupils involved in these challenges, but also to every CPS pupil who gives their best in maths lessons every single day.
