The girls played the final of the Surrey U13 Hardball Cricket Cup yesterday against Putney High School at St, George’s College.

It was a damp day and the match was interrupted by rain between the innings, but the match was very close.

Cranleigh Prep won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 57 runs off their 10 overs; Lizzie K reached 20 and was retired, and Annabel L made 19 not out. After the rain break CPS took to the field and bowled very well to contain the Putney High team. With 2 overs remaining Putney required 4 to win and the game looked over and done with. However, Cecilia B had other ideas and bowled an amazing over, conceding only 1 run. The final over was bowled by Issy W, who produced accurate balls which brought us to the final 2 balls with the scores level and the prospect of a super over looking highly likely. Sadly it was not to be as the Putney batters scrambled a run off the penultimate delivery and so won the game.

It was a really exciting game and the girls should be very proud of their achievements this year, they have all made huge improvements and are looking more accomplished with each match.
