April,  the winners of both the Prep School House Music Competitions and Senior School Helen Wareham Competition joined together to celebrate Cranleigh Music’s outstanding musicians.

Six CPS performers played in the ‘Encore Concert’ which was enjoyed by students and parents in the Emms Centre at Cranleigh School.

Miles Taylor (CPS Brass Winner) was the first to perform; his tuba medley of American Civil War pieces really started the concert well.  Oliver Weaver (CPS Woodwind Winner) performed two movements of a Corelli Recorder Sonata with precision and flair.

Max Deacon (CPS Guitar Winner) gave a suitably funky rendition of ‘Surf Rider’ by Gary Ryan.  This was followed by Hannah Scriven (CPS String Winner) who retained the relaxed atmosphere with her accomplished playing of ‘Bathwater Blues’ on the Violin.

Lily Harding (CPS Piano Winner) performed Chopin’s Nocturne in C# minor with poise and elegance.  The final CPS performer was Maisie Ramsay (CPS Vocal Winner) who sang ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ beautifully.

Winners of the Senior School Competition then followed before the audience enjoyed a champagne reception to celebrate. Our CPS musicians really rose to the occasion and no doubt this will be the first of many performances for them as they join the Senior School in September.
