It is always good when an old friend comes to visit and Monday’s visit from Cliff McNish was no different.

Cliff was our Patron of Reading last year (2016-2017) and has written a number of books, including The Doomspell Trilogy, Breathe: A Ghost Story and Going Home.

Last year, he visited Cranleigh Prep School regularly to inspire the children with his mystery and animal stories.  Whilst he presented to large groups during English lessons, he also worked with small groups of children on their writing technique.

Cliff is currently involved with some research at Kings College, London looking at children’s creative writing.  We were thrilled, therefore, when he got back in touch to see if he could come back to CPS to deliver two creative writing workshops with Form 4.  He worked with them on characterisation and plot development.

The children were delighted to see Cliff McNish back at school again and were very much inspired by his writing workshops.

Who knows, perhaps he has inspired a future Agatha Christie or Dan Brown?
