CPS sports coach, James Carson, who plays hockey for both Reading and Wales, captained the Welsh hockey team at an international tournament, the European Indoor Division III, held in Cyprus last weekend.
It was James’s 1st indoor tournament, so a real accolade to be made captain. The Welsh team arrived on Thursday evening and played six matches, as below:
Lost 6 – 2 Belarus
Drew 2 – 2 Slovenia
Drew 4 – 4 Slovakia
Won 14 – 0 Cyprus
Won 10 – 0 Greece
Lost 4 – 0 Scotland
James was the team’s top scorer, with 11 goals. He says “We took a young side, which was a great experience for the team and a fantastic stepping stone to the senior outdoor side who are playing in the Commonwealth Games in Australia this year.”
We wish James lots of luck next week, when he will be playing (outdoors) against Spain in preparation for the Commonwealth Games. Spain are currently ranked no.8 in the world so it will be the highest ranked team that James has ever played against – good luck Wales!
