Work continues at a pace on the new Townsend Building at Cranleigh Prep School. Designed by the architects, Tate Harmer, and built by the construction firm, Blue Forest, our exciting new building project will be named after Anthony Townsend in recognition of his 27 years of outstanding service to the Governing Body of the Cranleigh Schools.

The new, two-storey teaching block, using natural wood finishes throughout, is designed to provide a healthy and stimulating learning environment.  The three new science laboratories will create a fantastic space for us to introduce innovative Science teaching from Years 3-8.  In addition, there will be two new wonderfully light Art classrooms, as well as state of the art Design and Food Technology areas.

The reorganisation of existing buildings will create a ‘parent hub’ and gardens where parents, pupils and staff will be able to  meet and interact.

Headmaster, Michael Wilson, added that ‘the building is unashamedly African in its design, with a glass frontage that opens out to a wide balcony overlooking the main cricket pitch, whilst looking out onto the Surrey Hills at the front and the South Downs at the back.   The first floor roof is open to the rafters and the building will be clad in Siberian Larch to give the feel of a game lodge ’.

The Townsend Building will be opened during the Summer term 2018.
