We wish James Carson, who has been a much-loved sports coach here at CPS since September 2016, good luck this weekend, representing Wales at the Men’s Hockey World League Round 2, held in Belfast from 11th-19th March.
As a valued member of the Reading hockey team, where he plays three times a week, James has had a busy time fitting in the international fixtures whilst representing Wales as well. He flew to Barcelona in January, where he played against America – Wales won one match and drew in one. James then had to fly back early to the UK to represent Reading in the National Indoor Hockey Final against East Grinstead at Wembley!
Next stop was Paris, where James played for Wales against France. They won 4-2, with James scoring one of the winning goals.
The 2016-17 Men’s Hockey World League Round 2 takes place in March and April. A total of 24 teams competing in three events will take part in this round of the tournament playing for nine berths in the semi-finals, to be played in June and July 2017.
Representing Wales, James will be playing against Scotland, France and Poland in his group. Each team will play in a quarter final, then the top two teams who get through to the final will qualify for the World League semi-final in London.
Michael Wilson, Headmaster, says “It is a fantastic achievement to play hockey at international level. We wish James lots of luck and look forward to hearing how he gets on in Belfast.”
