March has put both teams through to the IAPS National Netball Finals on Friday; the U13s were crowned Regional Champions and the U12s were runners up.

The U12 and U13 girls headed to Hurst for the regional round of the IAPS competition. The day started with some pretty miserable, wet weather on the forecast but it certainly didn’t dampen the girls’ spirits. Both teams played some very clever, flowing netball which took them through to the group stages unbeaten.

With both teams topping their groups, the next stage of the tournament meant semi-finals and finals in order to secure a place at the National competition.

The U12s had a slightly easier job with three places available in their age group. Their semi was against Brighton College who had finished runners up in the other section. Although they gave a spirited performance, the Cranleigh Prep girls were just too strong and finished winners with a score of 7-2.

Having won this game, they were already through to the Nationals. However, they still had to play the final in order to determine the winners and runners up of the region. The U12s met a fired up Windlesham House team who, despite coming runners up in their group, went on to win their semi-final against Hurst, and this momentum carried Windlesham through to the final.

Despite a gutsy performance, Cranleigh Prep lost the final by one goal, making them the regional runners up – a great achievement considering the amount of netball the team had played that day.

The U13s had a slightly harder job with only two spaces to the Nationals obtainable in their age group. In their semi-final against Holmwood House, the Cranleigh Prep girls asserted their dominance from the start and took the victory 14-9.

With a place secured, they also faced Windlesham House in the final, again to determine the first place and runners up positions for the region. Their unbeaten run was unstoppable and the score finished 15-8 to Cranleigh Prep so, undefeated all day, they took the title of U13 Regional Champions.

Alison Jolly, Director of Sport, says “It was a superb day for our Cranleigh Prep girls, with so many great highlights. We wish both teams good luck at the National Finals in Basildon, Essex, on Friday and hope the winning streak continues.”
