Former pupils Rory Calnan, Harry Gough and Issy Petter, currently in the Lower Sixth at Cranleigh School, were interviewed about their experiences playing hockey for England by Mike Howard during School Assembly on Friday.

They each reminisced about their happy and formative years at Cranleigh Prep – Rory and Harry both arrived in Form 5 and Issy was here right from the start, in Form 1.

Harry first played for England a year up in the U16s two years ago and has played against a number of European teams whilst representing the country, with highlights including beating Ireland and Belgium.  He has chosen to play for the 2nd team this year due to the huge time commitment so that he can focus more on hockey at school.  He did tell us that he aspires to play for the U21s in the future.

Rory now plays for the U18 England squad and his sister, Charlotte (who left Cranleigh last year), is currently representing Great Britain in Chile at the World Cup.  He explained the 100% commitment required when competing at international level, which meant he had to give up tennis, another big love.  Rory represented the Cranleigh U16 team at the Nationals last year, coming 3rd.  This year he is playing for the 1st team and believes they have a good chance of winning.

Issy is now playing hockey for England for the 3rd year running.  After two years in the U16 team, she currently plays a year up for the U18 team.  Having won the U13 national hockey title whilst here representing CPS, Issy has since won the U16 national title at Cranleigh School, as well as playing for the Surbiton 1st hockey team.

Many thanks to Harry, Rory and Issy for giving up their time to come and entertain and inspire us all.  We look forward to hearing much more about their budding hockey careers going forward!
