The U9 and U10 rugby teams visited Twickenham on Saturday for a very special experience. The trip was a result of weeks of preparation, having been invited to take part in a rugby festival before the Argentina v Australia game which was to take place on the same day.
The boys had all been fantastic in the run up to the event and had trained after school on a number of occasions in order to prepare.
Just after the Tudor Ball and Greek Day, all 29 boys and four staff made the trip up to ‘HQ’ where we were greeted by scores of excited children anxious to get on the hallowed turf.
Once inside, the scale of the place took a few of the boys by surprise and they were slightly shell-shocked (some right up to the point of kick off!). Each age group played two games and, despite it being a ‘friendly’ event, the levels of competition were still high and some very good rugby was played by all. We won two games, drew one and lost one.
At the conclusion of the festival, children went with parents to get some food and we met back in our seats for a fantastic game of test rugby. Australia came out on top but we all agreed that there wasn’t a happier group of people in the stadium than us, despite being neutrals! An amazing experience was had by all and every boy that played can now say that they have won a game at Twickenham, no mean feat.
