At the weekend, Xavier represented the England U11 chess squad  and travelled to Brussels for the annual team event vs the Belgian junior side.   He joined 23 other players for a trip on the Eurostar, for a weekend of international level chess.

The team event was closely fought, with the score level at 19-19 towards the end of the final round.  The last two games went England’s way, and won them the team fixture.  Many congratulations in particular to Xavier who won both his matches.

After a night with Belgian host families, the chess stars played a fast paced individual event on Sunday morning.  Xavier did very well, beating the Belgian number 2 in the second round. A draw in the third with the 4th seed left him fighting for 2nd place. Despite a good start in the last round, he wasn’t able to capitalise on his advantage, ending the event in the top third of the table but out of the medals.   However, this was an excellent performance and we look forward to hearing more chess news from Xavier.
