After being shortlisted as one of the regional finalists of the Royal Mail Young Letter Writer Competition last week, budding journalist Ben (Form 5) heard yesterday that he has been named the South East Area winner. This is an outstanding achievement, as the Royal Mail received and judged nearly 100,000 letters.
As a regional finalist, having impressed the judges with his letter written on the theme of ‘what is your dream job?’, Ben had already won £40 in vouchers and £40 for the School. Now, as an Area Winner, he is guaranteed £200 in vouchers and £200 for the School.
Earlier this morning Ben was invited to the studios at BBC Sussex & Surrey in Guildford where he was interviewed by Danny Pike along with another area finalist, Sophie, from Oakhyrst Grange School in Caterham.

Ben’s application, to become a Chief Sports Architect designing future sports’ stadiums, will go forward once again to the panel of judges, including TV presenter, Helen Skelton. They will select the overall winners from the current 24 Area Winners, and all prizes will then be awarded in early March. Many congratulations to Ben for reaching the national final – this really is an exceptional result and we wish him the very best of luck next month.
