At the start of the year there will be an introduction into why we study Latin.

Work covered this term will include some Roman stoies including Romulus and Remus. 

Over the course of the year there will be regular vocabulary tests to build up the students vocabularies. These will be tested regularly and it is hoped that by the end of the year the children will know all the vocabularies up to and including Vocab 5 of Disce Latinum.

Language work covered this term will include translations both from Latin to English and English to Latin, the present tense of the 1st Conjugation and 'sum',Roman numbers and basic sentence structure using Nominatives and Accusatives

Work covered this term will include some Roman stoies including Horatius and the Bridge.

The plan is to do a Latin project on an aspect of Roman Life.

In sets 5A and 5 D  there will be a period of consolidation to ensure that all work done previously is both known and understood.

In set 5.1  there will be a period of consolidation to ensure that all work done previously is both known and understood.

• The stories of Mucius Scaevola and Cloelia

Over the course of the year there will be regular vocabulary tests to build up the students vocabularies. These will be tested regularly and it is hoped that by the end of the term the children will know all the vocabularies up to and including Vocab 11 of Disce Latinum.

The work covered this term includes:

• The Imperfect tense
• Preparation for exams
• A project on an aspect of Roman Life

Set 5.2 includes many students who are new to Latin. The aim over the course of the year is to start from scratch and build up quickly. In the Michaelmas term work to be covered includes the Present Tense and an introduction to the Nominative and Accusative cases. This then needs to be applied in basic sentences using 1st declension nouns and verbs in the Present tense. Stories covered this term are Romulus and Remus and Horatius and the Bridge.

In the second term the children will extend their knowledge of cases and learn to use 2nd Declension nouns. Stories from Roman History covered this term will include Mucius Scaevola and Cloelia.

Set 5.2 will continue to refine their understanding of the cases using 1st and 2 nd Declension nouns By the exam they should know endings for the 1st and 2nd Declensions, the Present tense in all 4 conjugations and how to translate both from English to Latin and Latin to English. 

The children in this set will be prepared to sit a Common Entrance Level 2 Paper at the end of the term. At the start of the year there will be a chance to go over work covered before and to consolidate their knowledge

• Comparison of adjectives
• The stories of Theseus and Hercules
• Level 2 Vocabulary
• 3rd Declension
• Demonstrative adjective
• 3rd Person Pronoun

The children in this set will be prepared for the Common Entrance Level 2 paper which they have to sit in the Summer.

Much of the time will be spent on consolidation of the work covered last term and also on extending the children's knowledge of the Greek Myths including Hercules, Troy, Perseus and  Jason.

In the Summer we shall be refining their exam technique and consolidating the work covered so far.

In addition we shall cover the stories of the Trojan Horse and The Odyssey.

The children in these sets will be prepared to sit a Common Entrance Level 1 Paper at the end of the term. At the start of the year there will be a chance to go over work covered before and to consolidate their knowledge

The Lent term sees us stepping up to Level 3 papers and scholarship.

• Indirect Commands
• Deponent verbs
• Ablative Absolute

Following the Scholarship exam the children will be involved in a project which follows a theme that the children elect on some aspect of Classical Life. Past ventures have included the study of Greek and a rousing film project.
