History curriculum in Forms 1-3

Forms 1-3 History curriculum is part of the six 'Units of Inquiry' that are covered over the course of a year. The nature of inquiry work means that the History curriculum is not at all prescriptive. This year the following will be covered in Forms 1-3:

Form 1's

  • An exploration into Roman civilization
  • An exploration into the ancient Egyptian belief in life after death, with particular reference to Tutenkhamoun and the discovery of his tomb; religion & daily life

Form 2's -

  • A look at the range of sources of evidence such as photographs, letters, diaries, reports and so on.
  • An understanding of the importance of questioning older generations to find out changes and life experiences
  • An investigation of WWI & WWII: particularly how the war affected life at home and the lives of children
  • An investigation into how technology has caused change throughout History
  • A comparison of diets between WWII and the modern day

Form 3's

  • Tudor Times, including a detailed introduction into William Shakespeare, his life and other key characters of his time, such as Sir Francis Drake & Sir Walter Raleigh
  • An exploration of the Vikings and their impact.

History curriculum in Forms 5 & 6

Pupils in Form 5 and 6 complete a two year syllabus covering the period from 1066 - 1485 in preparation for Common Entrance. Those undertaking Scholarship exams at the end of the 6th Form (Year 8) cover a slightly broader syllabus that encompasses both the medieval period (1066 - 1485) and 'The Making of Modern Britain' (1485 - 1750).
